I-35 at 51st Street


The project adds a collector-distributor road, or intersection bypass lane, to allow through-traffic to bypass the traffic signal and adds a new roundabout at the intersection of the southbound frontage road of I-35 and 51st Street. Bicycle and pedestrian accommodations will also be improved along the I-35 southbound frontage road within the project limits.

Need & Purpose
  • Reduce bottlenecks at the southbound frontage road of I-35 at 51st Street and for east/west traffic
  • Improve connections at the existing U-turn structure
  • Improve southbound ramp operations between 51st Street and Airport Boulevard
