Central Texas Business Community
I-35 Main Street Texas has, through the
years, been a preferred route for millions of
Texas drivers including thousands of businesses
that depend on the reliability of the corridor
to transport goods and services across the
state.
To maintain corridor reliability, TxDOT is
spending $1.9 billion to expand I-35 from four
to six lanes, from San Antonio to the “Y” north
of Hillsboro. The expansion project is
exceptional in degree, with more acreage under
construction at one time on one highway than at
any other point in the state’s transportation
history. More than ninety miles of that project
is through Central Texas, specifically the Waco
District, from the Bell-Williamson county line
to the east-west split north of Hillsboro.
Obviously, a construction project of this
size impacts lots of Texans. So the agency is
broadening its public involvement efforts to
include a multi-year schedule of regular
meetings with the business community to share
construction information and gain feedback on
project concerns such as mobility and access.
