Ribbon-Cutting Marks Completion of I-35 Waco Project

The I-35 Waco Project is officially complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held November 9, 2022. The $341-million project finished on budget and ahead of schedule, beating its originally estimated end date by approximately eighteen months. The Waco Project is part of the larger My35 Waco District Construction Plan, begun in 2012, that comprises 17 separate construction efforts along a 96-mile corridor from Hillsboro to Salado in Central Texas. | Read More

Opportunity, Talent, and a Focus on Paying it Forward

On November 9, 2022, the I-35 Waco Project marked its official completion with a ribbon-cutting that saw VIPs from around the state come to celebrate the project finishing months ahead of schedule. Construction Updates

Section 4B: Waco (12th Street to North Loop 340)

Milestones

  • Switched all northbound mainlane traffic onto new pavement throughout the whole project.
  • Opened all entrance and exit ramps.
  • Switched westbound US 84 / Waco Drive to new pavement.
  • Paved and opened 2nd Street off the southbound frontage road.
  • Switched traffic to new pavement on Business 77.
  • Finished setting the northbound and southbound retaining wall between US 84 and Behrens Circle.
  • Completed drilled shaft installation for new traffic signals.
  • Installed the northbound frontage road driveway for the new Baylor University welcome center.
  • Completed side street connections to the frontage roads.

Down the Road

  • Continue to open the 11th/12th Street section of the northbound frontage road.
  • Continue sidewalk and driveway construction for the northbound and southbound frontage roads from Behrens Circle to 12th Street.
  • Continue the east-end headwall and riprap construction of Culvert 5 (Waco Creek).
  • Continue paving intersections at 4th/5th Streets and 11th/12th Streets.
  • Continue installation of new signal hardware, including pedestrian crossing signals.
  • Continue landscaping/flat work at multiple interchanges.
  • Complete retaining walls at the Brazos River.
  • Install pedestrian barrier between Behrens Circle and Loop 340.
  • Install remaining rail, metal beam guard fence, and crash cushion installations.

I-35E Expansion (I-35 East/West split to Ellis County line)

Milestones

  • Substantially completed northbound mainlane Phase 4 concrete paving.
  • Completed White Rock Creek Bridge.
  • Opened new northbound exit and entrance ramps at FM 934.

Down the Road

  • Complete all northbound mainlane concrete paving.
  • Complete concrete paving on FM 2959 and FM 934.
  • Construct the single slope median barrier at the centerline.
