More than 100 Waco residents took advantage of TxDOT’s Open House event at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum’s Knox Hall earlier this month to learn more about the coming changes and reconstruction of Interstate 35 through town.
Part of an intensive pre-construction effort to connect with Waco residents, businesses and commuters, the event featured an overview of the need and purpose for the project, schematic layouts of the plan, and opportunities to give information on properties and businesses adjacent to the project limits, as well as to sign up for communications on project impacts and closures.
Construction is currently expected to begin in spring 2019. Another public meeting is planned before that happens to provide more details on scheduling and planned phases of construction.
Bids for the construction project were opened the first week of December, and following the Transportation Commission’s confirmation of the bid on Dec. 13, Webber, LLC was announced as the construction contractor.

Click on "Travel Notifications" to find a list of the ways you can sign up for regular information about planned closures and unplanned incidents throughout the district (emails, tweets, text messages and a real-time map are available). Waco-area-only project updates are available for subscription and through the project hotline at 254-613-6452.
